A Within Our Lifetime (WOL) Network project, #Disrupt PhilanthropyNOW! was established to challenge foundations to develop racially just grantmaking practices and transform structures to address systemic racism and white supremacy.

Although WOL formally sunsetted in 2018, the strength of relationships and the legacy of our demonstration projects continues to support and nurture the movement for racial equity, justice and healing today.

We invite you to share your story about racially inequitable grantmaking and/or share your ideas to disrupt and transform philanthropy.

HISTORY

The Within Our Lifetime (WOL) network was named for its audacious vision - to end racism within our lifetime.

From its beginnings in 2012, when an inspired group of people came together, WOL was clear that the work of healing from the insidious multi-generational impact of structural racism, would be complex and emergent.

WOL was clear that creating a sense of momentum and possibility was critical to dismantle systemic racism, and sustain ourselves in the long fight for racial justice.

#DisruptPhilanthropyNOW!

We are issuing an invitation for courageous and collective action to challenge philanthropy to develop racially just grantmaking practices and transform structures, so we can collectively tackle structural racism and white supremacy to end racism within our lifetimes.

WE NEED TO SPEAK THE TRUTH ON THE IMPACT OF GRANTMAKING SYSTEMS AND PRACTICES.

We can no longer protect our own resources by being silent when we know one of our funder’s unjust practices have devastating effects on other organizations and the communities where we work.

Movement Mic Check

Within Our Lifetime spent several years researching effective ways to respond rapidly to racial disasters.

We interviewed local organizers in ten cities where racial disasters occurred, and compiled a resource-rich report of best practices and key learnings, from Ferguson to Charlottesville.

The report has specific recommendations for local organizers, national organizers and funders.
It balances theory with practical tools.

Within Our Lifetime

Established in 2012, Within Our Lifetime (WOL) Network brought together 125 plus organizations plus racial healing practitioners and racial equity advocates committed to ending the impact of racism in our lifetimes.

The Network served as a vehicle for connecting, building learning and leadership capacity, and mobilizing its members to actualize its vision. The vision of WOL Network was to advance a proactive and cross-sector movement that significantly transforms racism in our lifetime.

Although we formally sunsetted in 2018, the strength of relationships and the legacy of our demonstration projects continues to support and nurture the movement for racial equity, justice and healing today.
